Council For A Livable World Endorses Lautenberg For Re-Election
Council for a Livable World today endorsed Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg in his New Jersey Senate reelection campaign against former Republican Representative Richard Zimmer.

For decades, Council for a Livable World has been endorsing and raising money for Senate and House candidates who favor sensible national security policies. In the 2005 - 2006 election cycle, its supporters contributed $1.5 million to progressive congressional candidates.

"From the early days of the Iraq war, Lautenberg stood strong as a vocal critic of the President's actions," said retired Army Brigadier General John Johns, a member of the Council's board of directors.

"Lautenberg has been a strong supporter of ending the nuclear arms race and promoting smarter national security policies," said John Isaacs, the Council's executive director.

Lautenberg averages an excellent 90 percent on Council for a Livable World's annual voting scorecard. During his three terms in Congress, Zimmer averaged a disappointing 44 percent.

Lautenberg has been a consistent and active ally of Council for a Livable World during his time in the Senate. He opposed nuclear bunker busters and John Bolton's nomination to be Ambassador to the United Nations. He voted to cut missile defense funding and to increase funding for the United Nations. He focused on protecting chemical plants and water supplies from terrorist attacks.

"Over the course of their careers, the contrast between Lautenberg and Zimmer has been clear," added Isaacs.
