NJ Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association Endorses Lautenberg for Re-Election
The New Jersey Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA) recently announced its endorsement of Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), citing his years of work on behalf of firefighters and their families in the United States Senate.

"The New Jersey Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association is proud to once again endorse Senator Frank Lautenberg.  Senator Lautenberg continues to fight the fight for firefighter issues in Washington D.C.  For over 20 years, the NJFMBA has received his support.  This support does not go unnoticed.  We know that he can always be counted on to back America's working families.  This November you can count on the NJFMBA to get out the vote and get Senator Lautenberg reelected and sent back to Washington D.C. so that he can continue to fight the fight for New Jersey's Bravest," said Carlos A. Mercado, Jr., a member of the NJFMBA Legislative Committee.

"Firefighters are often our first line of defense in times of emergency.  It is vital we do everything in our power to support our brave firefighters.  New Jersey firefighters know that they will always have an ally in Frank Lautenberg in the United States Senate.  I am proud to accept the endorsement of the New Jersey Firefighter's Mutual Benevolent Association and its members," said Sen. Lautenberg.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Sen. Lautenberg has fought to secure funding for the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant program, which provides funding for fire departments to hire firefighters, and Assistance to Firefighters Grants, which fire departments use to purchase equipment and gear, improve fire stations and help recruit and retain firefighters.

Sen. Lautenberg also is a cosponsor of the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act, which guarantees the right of firefighters and law enforcement officers to bargain collectively with their employers over hours, wages and conditions of employment.

In August, campus fire safety legislation authored by Sen. Lautenberg was signed into law as part of the "College Opportunity and Affordability Act."  The Senator's "Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know Act" will provide students and families with crucial fire safety information by requiring college and universities to make their fire safety records public for the first time.
