Protecting pensions, demanding tax fairness and increasing the minimum wage are just part of the results that Senator Frank Lautenberg has accomplished by standing strong for New Jersey’s middle class families and taxpayers.
To help families make ends meet, Senator Lautenberg has fought for tax deductions to offset college costs, for major tax cuts for families with children, and an end to the “marriage penalty.” Senator Lautenberg voted against the two largest tax increases in American history. With a record like that, no wonder Senator Lautenberg has earned a perfect score from the AFL-CIO for his votes to protect labor and working families.
Lautenberg Fights For Increase in Federal Minimum Wage
For ten years, Republicans had blocked any increase in the minimum wage. But in 2007, Senator Lautenberg was part of a coalition in Congress that overcame the opposition and was able to enact the first increase in the federal minimum wage in 10 years.
Lautenberg protects pensions
Senator Lautenberg supported the Pension Funding Equity Act, which helped keep pensions solvent for millions of Americans who paid into a pension system and deserve to see their promised benefits in retirement.
Lautenberg works to make college education more affordable
Senator Lautenberg was a sponsor of a new law that will increase Pell Grants and reduce student loan interest rates. Senator Lautenberg fought to extend the Higher Education Tax Deduction to allow students to subtract tuition and fees from their taxable income.
